2008 will be remembered as a landmark year in our nation's history. This holiday, however, brings a mix of hope and gloom; gloom signified by a looming recession, hope signified by the historic and unprecedented election of the first African American to the office of President of the United States.

Sheraton City Center Hotel Workers Fight On

On November 18, 2008 hundreds gathered at the War Memorial Plaza in downtown Baltimore - just across the street from City Hall - in an historic march, rally and food drive for Baltimore's hotel workers. Participants converged on City Hall to mark the oneyear anniversary of the boycott called on the Sheraton City Center hotel, where workers have been without a contract since April 2006.

Change Has Come!

What an exciting election this was! Energized by this historic election, people came together at fairgrounds, cafes, community centers and at two national party conventions. The Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention brought together thousands of delegates and party faithful filling thousands of rooms in Denver and St. Paul hotels. With a looming economic crisis, both conventions boosted the local economies, providing much needed work to hotel employees.
