Coalition of labor leaders and LGBT groups urge Manchester Hyatt Boycott
UNITE HERE and LGBT leaders have announced a full-scale boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. This boycott was kicked off with a march on the Manchester Hyatt on Friday, July 18th from 1pm-2pm. The march was organized by a group called Californians Against Hate and UNITE HERE Local 30. The march on the Manchester Hyatt inspired a counter protest, with supporters of an initiative that seeks to ban same-sex marriage in California rallying directly in front of the hotel.MORE >
Mass. Convention Center Authority Cancels Aramark Contract
Center Authority announced it would cancel its contract with Aramark as its concessionaire at the Hynes Convention Center and at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, citing poor service and a labor dispute with UNITE HERE's Local 26. Local 26, which represents 350 Aramark workers at the 2 facilities, had called a boycott of Aramark at those locations earlier this year. Aramark and Local 26 had been negotiating a new contract since September of 2007, but on June 21, Local 26 members began a 3 day strike that ended on June 23.MORE >
ASDC Chooses San Diego for Post-Election Victory Site
After months of hard work on the campaign trail, the leaders of the state Democratic Parties will gather for a much-anticipated victory meeting in sunny San Diego. Members of the Association of State Democratic Chairs (ASDC) will de-brief 2008 election results this December at the historic seaside resort, the Hotel Del Coronado.MORE >
